About me

Hello, I am Elena Skafida,

I am a Greek and English speaking social worker trained as an intervention specialist and trainer in child development and education. In the Netherlands I am registered as a ‘basispedagoog’.

Given that I am a certified social worker with significant and varied experience working with children, teachers and families in Greece, Luxembourg, Belgium and in the Netherlands where I received my Master in Youth at Risk at the University of Amsterdam. I have worked with children and adolescents, with or without developmental problems or disabilities.

From 2009 I have led 160 interventions for children and adolescents in programs such as: the prevention of deviating behaviours and substance abuse, bullying, teaching emotional coping strategies in traumatic experiences, enhancing emotional intelligent, acceptance and cooperation in young people and the integration and inclusion of people with disabilities

I consider myself to be an excellent observer meaning that I am able to correctly and successful recognise important signals of behaviours in vulnerable clients. I can work independently or as part of a team which also means that I possess good communication skills and demonstrate a great deal of empathy towards other people. What’s more, I can establish personal boundaries and work well in high pressured environments. I am particularly interested in mindfulness based therapies to reduce and manage stress, depression and improve overall wellbeing.

Through my work and personal experience I have realised the importance of changes and adaptation to the new reality. I am a great observer and through my observations I am able to help people. Whenever needed, I think outside of the box on how to approach them. I am passionate about helping people and making a difference in their lives.
